<여전히, 그곳에 Still, There>

본인의 작업 ‘여전히, 그곳에’는 공주 고마나루 설화에서 시작된다. 일반적으로 설화라는 것은 구전으로 전해지며 역사적 사실의 범주에 속하지는 않는다. 하지만 아주 오래된 이야기들은 힘이 있고, 이야기는 잊혀 지지 않고 여전히 우리에게 남아있다. 그리고 그 힘은 강력하게 우리 앞에 구현되어진다.

이 자리, 이곳에 ‘기다림’이 존재했었다는 것을 공주 고마나루 설화 속 이야기는 우리에게 속삭인다. 기다림의 역사는 언제부터 시작되었는가?

작업은 어느 한곳을 응시하는 모습을 통해 그 ‘기다림’의 시간을 표현하고자 한다. 설화 속 곰의 모습으로 눈에 보이지 않는 ‘기다림’의 이미지를 잡고자 한다. 곰, 또는 곰이 되어버린 한 여인은 금강이 내다보이는 높은 자리에 앉아서 무한한 기다림의 시간을 견딘다. 영원한 시간 속 ‘기다림’은 지속되고 있다. 과거에도 그러했고 현재에도 그러했으며 다가올 미래에도 이 자리 이 모습 그대로일 것이다. 아직도 여전히 그곳에 존재하는 ‘과정’일 뿐이다.

My work, 'Still, There' starts from the folktale of Gomanaru in Gongju. In general, a folktale is orally transmitted, and does not belong to the category of historical facts. However, old folktales which have lasted over a long period of time have strong power. And, the power is embodied before our eyes.

The story of Gomanaru, Gongju whispers to us the fact that 'waiting' existed here, at this place. When did the history of waiting begin?

Through the feature of a bear staring at a spot, this work tries to express the time of 'waiting'. With the feature of a bear in the folktale, I tried to capture the invisible image of 'waiting'. A bear, or a bear-changed woman, sitting on a mountain ridge commanding the Geum River, stands a limitless time of waiting. 'Waiting' in permanent time continues. It was like that in the past, it is like that at present time, and it will be like that in the future. It is only the 'process' existing there.
